Word of advice - never ask for one of these at a traditional Irish pub. If you must, try using a Celtic friendly term, like “Dublin Drop.”
The last time I tried to order a round using the drink’s true name was at Kelly’s Irish Times in DC. The bartender gave me a look of death and in a thick brogue said:
“You wouldn’t ask for a Kamikaze in a Japanese bar, now would you?”
Wow, that is really good to know! I fully intend to order an
Irish Car BombDublin Drop when I go to Ireland, so now I know what to call it
Asking for an Irish Car Bomb in Ireland is like asking for a 9/11 in New York; it’s something you just do not do.
